“Since my last blog post I’ve spoken with several contacts in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia. There has been a deluge of information that is still being processed at Affordable Housing Institute. We now have floor plans for all current housing types and projects to be built in the next ten years years in the Gulf.  Different countries will be tackling the housing issue at varying scales. In Bahrain and Kuwait the focus will be in new town building; while in UAE and Qatar the focus will be on increasing the urbanization of existing cities.

In the preceding decades, housing information in Bahrain and Kuwait are for the most part well documented. In contrast, information on housing in the UAE and Qatar is sparse. There’s much less information on housing in the 70s in Qatar for example than in the nearby countries. I’ve begun the task of organizing the work I will complete in my fellowship, which ultimately means deciding on how much housing information will be included in my completed research project.”
