Summer 2018

Organization: MASS Design Group, Boston, MA

Sponsor: Joint Center for Housing Studies Community Service Fellowship

My experience as a Community Service Fellow at MASS has been very productive and fun. The goal for the main project I’ve been involved with this summer is the improvement of a vulnerable neighborhood in Paraguay. During the initial weeks of the internship, I also worked on a new phase for a hospital in Liberia. These projects allowed me to acknowledge the agency of architecture to project its values beyond the buildings’ walls and into the lives of communities and people, as MASS often underlines. It was this pioneering commitment to social impact that brought me to MASS in the first place, and I’m very glad I took the opportunity.

To sum up, the JCHS Community Service Fellowship has been a wonderful mechanism for me to enjoy a meaningful professional experience during the summer. I’m very grateful to the GSD, the Joint Center for Housing Studies, and MASS for making this possible.
