Summer 2017

Organization: Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley, Woonsocket, RI

Sponsor: Doebele Community Service Fellowship

” This week I participated in activities outside of Woonsocket to gain a more complex understanding of participatory processes and ways to make them successful tools. I  conducted a workshop in Bridgeport with Kathy Dorgan, the local community, and the Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust. By the end of the workshop we had compelling results we can use to help revitalize deteriorated communities. People proposed innovative places due to its conceptualization as multipurpose spaces.

Again, I built on my understanding of social situations and their impact on the city. I have learned that small cities in the United States are facing huge challenges to recover.  Community organization needs to be a priority to create better places to live, as well as to speed up developing processes. More horizontal communication between different disciplines is necessary.”
