“I will be spending the summer interning with the Philadelphia City Planning Commission, which I am truly excited about, because despite having grown up in the Philly suburbs I have never lived here myself nor have I studied it from a planning perspective. The city released a new master plan a few years ago, so I am working with the Implementation Team on following through with all the projects, zoning changes, and other programs that came out of that process. This week I went to a number of meetings, including a City Council Rules Committee hearing, a meeting about preserving viable industrial lands, a final meeting before the release of an RFP for a greenway project, and a training session for Registered Community Organizations, pictured above. The city has formalized the process through which community groups interface with zoning and development changes in their neighborhoods, allowing for more transparency and accountability to all parties. I am looking forward to a busy and educational summer here.”
