Following the model of the Rebuild by Design Competition, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has just announced a National Disaster Resilience Competition. The competition will make available $1 billion in Community Development Block Grant funds for communities previously affected by natural disaster. The competition will challenge communities to use disaster recovery funds with a new approach that combines resiliency and recovery. Continuing from the lessons learned with Rebuild by Design, the competition builds a new path for federal government to support communities at the local level as they build their capacity to withstand future challenges.
