“This summer, I have learned a great deal about the needs of small businesses, and how Main Street directors work to assist them.  Examples include working with business owners to improve their storefronts through the city’s ReStore program, matching potential tenants with vacant properties, and connecting owners with technical assistance opportunities for their business plans. In the South End, rising rents serve as a barrier for small business owners who have been in the neighborhood for many years, but can no longer afford the cost of their lease. I am interested in how Main Streets organizations and city leaders can work with landlords and business owners to prevent small businesses, the heart of any neighborhood, from being priced out of their communities.”
